American Idols Live Schedule
NEWS
American Idol has decided to make even more changes. The production company for the popular tv show has signed a deal with Universal Music Group to make, distribute, and market the albums of the top singers on the show.
19 Entertainment, the production company, was with Sony Music but decided to switch to the larger group. Sony Music did produce successes in Kelly Clarkson, Clay Aiken, and Carrie Underwood. The latter has won many high awards including multiple Grammy Awards.
Simon Fuller, the creator of the show, said about the switch, “With Idol celebrating our 10th season I wanted to inject some new power and weight behind our brand. It is exciting to have the world’s biggest show partnered with the world’s biggest music company.”

A couple of days ago I had the chance to see the American Idol Tour at Jiffy Lube Live in Bristow, Va. Due to a previous commitment I arrived a little late and sat down just as Katie Stevens was singing the final notes of Christina Aguilera’s “Fighter.” What I did see, though, blew me away.
The show was all well-known songs, things people could sing along to. I think part of the fun in it was that I could watch the performer onstage while standing at my seat belting out the lyrics myself.

Ellen DeGeneres is the newest celebrity judge to grace the panel of the next season of “American Idol.” Ellen is a long-time fan of the show and beat out other judge hopefuls, which included Victoria “Posh Spice” Beckham and Katy Perry.
Some critics have poo-pooed the decision to choose DeGeneres, noting that her role would be more comic relief than substantive. But supporters, among them Sharon Osbourne, think Ellen makes the perfect choice to add an everyman voice to a panel already filled with music experts. The comedy is just a bonus.
Ellen defends this position herself, explaining, “I’m just like you. I sit at home and I watch it… I’m not looking at it in a critical way from the producer’s mind. I’m looking at it as a person who is going to buy music and is going to relate to that person.”
Guest judges will still be featured during some of the audition episodes, including Beckham, Mary J. Blige, Avril Lavigne and Joe Jonas of the Jonas Brothers.
